Simon Lashford has been hired as museum design coordinator at Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, according to a news release.

Lashford relocated from Chicago to Wilmington and was most recently employed as director of design for Redbox Workshop, a full-service studio specializing in design, fabrication, project management and printing services, officials said.

His previous positions in design include detailer for Architecture Is Fun and Chicago Scenic Studios. In addition, Lashford has a background in set design and has worked on several productions in the Chicago area, according to the release.

“I am excited to join the team at Cape Fear Museum of History and Science. I have been really impressed by the Museum’s commitment to telling the stories of the Lower Cape Fear area through beautiful, thoughtful and informative exhibits. I look forward to using my experience in creating hands-on learning environments and educational interactives to continue engaging our visitors,” Lashford said in the release.

Lashford earned his bachelor’s degree in theater arts set and lighting design from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

“We are delighted to welcome Simon to our team at Cape Fear Museum,” Museum Director Sheryl Kingery Mays said in the release. “We are fortunate to attract a well-rounded design professional with the background and experience to support our mission of interpreting objects relating to the history, science and cultures of the area and making them available to the public through informative exhibitions."
