SunTrust Mortgage Inc. has announced that Melanie Welsh has been hired as vice president and producing sales manager for the Coastal Carolina Region and will be located in the Landfall office in Wilmington, according to a news release.
Welsh comes to SunTrust Mortgage with more than 30 years of experience and a track record of successful leadership results within the mortgage industry, officials said in the release. She has a very diverse background that brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of sales, operations, relationship management and business development with an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Her leadership experience, extensive relationships in the real estate community and commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients and partners will be a great addition to our Wilmington and surrounding area markets,” said David Schnepp, SunTrust Mortgage’s area regional manager, in the release. "We’re excited to have her in this role and look forward to enhancing our presence and continued market share growth."
Most recently, Welsh was with On Q Financial in a business development/mortgage consultant role. Formerly, she held executive leadership roles with Wachovia Mortgage Corporation where she was responsible for establishing internal and external strategic partnerships, driving business development initiatives, and delivering the highest levels of profitability and client satisfaction within the company, officials said.
She was the co-founder and president of Envision Mortgage Corporation, where she launched an award-winning mortgage brokerage company serving the residential financing needs of clients in Wilmington and throughout North Carolina. Envision Mortgage later merged with North State Bank Mortgage where she held the position of regional mortgage manager.
Welsh is a strong community advocate by volunteering her time and talents to various trade, educational and charitable organizations. She is a member of the Cape Fear Realtor Association, Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association, East Carolina University’s College of Business Advisory Council and recently served as Chairperson for the American Heart Association’s 2018 Cape Fear Heart Ball.
Melanie graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She grew up in Pembroke and has been a resident of Wilmington since 1991.
