Courtyard Marriott Carolina Beach Takes First Place In Hospitality Fundraising Event

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Apr 24, 2018
The Wilmington Area Hospitality Association has contributed more than $2500 to the Hospitality Programs at Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, according to a news release.

The funds were raised by businesses and sponsors who participated in the “Hospitality Olympics” at Waterline Brewery in March. A series of fun games including a “fish toss” and “human foosball” were played by competitive teams from a selection of accommodations, restaurants and attractions in Wilmington, officials said in the release.

Teams that won the most points, tallied by students from Cape Fear Community College, were as follows:
  • First Place: Courtyard Marriott Carolina Beach Oceanfront
  • Second Place: Embassy Suites by Hilton Wilmington Riverfront
  • Third Place: Holiday Inn Resort Wrightsville Beach
The “Team Spirit” Award was won by the Staybridge Suites Wilmington, some of whom appeared to be prepared for Scottish war games by wearing kilts, officials said.

Cape Fear Community Students who volunteered to be scorekeepers for the event collected hours towards a goal that will allow them a slot in the school’s group enjoying a complimentary trip to Chicago for the National Restaurant Show in May, officials said in the release.
