Cape Fear Realtors has installed its 2018 president, Fred Gainey, according to a news release.

Gainey began his real estate career after retiring as a captain with the Wilmington Fire Department, becoming a second-generation Realtor.

For nearly 10 years, he has worked as a sales agent, broker-in-charge and compliance director and was recently appointed broker-in-charge at Buy Coastal Real Estate, where he specializes in commercial and residential real estate.

“It’s time for a ’new beginning.’ We are in a very robust market today, but we cannot sit back and rest. We have new challenges on the horizon that could affect how customers deal with Realtors. As Realtors, consumers look to us for our knowledge, service and advice,” Gainey said in the release.

Gainey serves as a board member for the N.C. Realtors  Association and the 2018 vice chairman of the N.C. Realtors Risk Management Advisory Board.

Gainey also serves on boards for Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority and New Hanover County Special Board of Equalization and Review. He has received designations as a graduate, Realtors Institute, Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource and Workforce Housing Specialist.

Gainey believes education is a crucial component for all Realtors, officials said. He enjoys instructing new agents as they enter the real estate industry.

"After living here for over 47 years, he truly knows our area," officials said in the release.
