MarineMax has announced the promotion of Tyler Layton to general manager, overseeing the stores in Wrightsville Beach and Southport.
As general manager of MarineMax Wrightsville Beach and MarineMax Southport, Layton will lead its sales, service and parts team, who have been serving the greater Wilmington area for over 20 years, according to a news release from the Florida-headquartered company.
“Tyler has proven a success at MarineMax Clearwater, and I look forward to his continued growth in North Carolina as he supports the teams in Wrightsville Beach and Southport in their goal of providing the best possible customer service,” T.J. Rose, MarineMax district president, said in the release.
Prior to his promotion to general manager at the two locations, Layton served for nearly two years as a business manager at the company’s flagship store, MarineMax Clearwater in Florida.
Before joining MarineMax, Layton spent three years as a finance manager for Mercedes-Benz of Sarasota, Florida, as well as having served as a finance officer in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his role as general manager at MarineMax, Layton is a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve and has held numerous leadership positions throughout his military career, including an overseas assignment to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a 10-month deployment, officials said in the release.
Layton’s military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, German Armed Forces for Proficiency Badge and U.S. Army Parachutist Badge.
Layton is a graduate of The Ohio State University and earned a commission as an Army officer through The Ohio State University Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.
“I look forward to expanding my position within MarineMax and the Wilmington area as a whole. Both the Wrightsville Beach and Southport stores have shown that given the opportunity, they are capable of exceeding client, team member and shareholder expectations. I am excited about our future growth and to lead our team in this endeavor,” Layton said.
