Brunswick County Board of Commissioners’ Vice Chairman Randy Thompson has been appointed to the N.C. Fire and Rescue Commission.

The Fire and Rescue Commission assists and participates with state and local fire prevention and control agencies in the improvement of fire prevention and control in North Carolina, according to a press release from Brunswick County. Thompson will serve a three-year term on the commission.

Prior to being elected to the Board of Commissioners, Thompson served for more than 30 years in local government, including as Brunswick County’s Emergency Management Director. He is a past president of the N.C. Emergency Management Association and a past commissioner of the State of North Carolina Emergency Response Commission, and currently provides consulting services to local, state and federal agencies across the country.

Thompson was also recently appointed to represent the N.C. Association of County Commissioners.

“I’m excited about representing the Association of Counties and honored that the Commissioner of Insurance appointed me to this important position,” Thompson said. “With my background and experience, I think that I’ll have something to offer to not only assist our local counties but assist the entire state as well.”
