Derrick Michael of Wilmington was recently honored by Land Rover as one of the 2016 recipients of that British car manufacturer’s most prestigious awards, according to a news release.

Michael, the service manager for Land Rover’s Cape Fear dealership, received the Marque of Distinction award, as well as a Guild award.

A Gold Certified Service Manager for Land Rover, Michael was presented with his awards during an annual Journey reward trip to England that he made in early September. The awards were based on both meeting prerequisites and exceeding specific performance metrics for his service department and service technicians at the Land Rover Cape Fear dealership, the release said.

His level of achievement allowed him to earn the highest honor bestowed through the Jaguar Land Rover’s Journey to Excellence recognition program, the Marque of Distinction award, according to the release. The honor is granted annually to one Parts Manager, Parts Professional, Sales Manager, Sales Consultant, Sales Guide, Service Manager, Service Advisor and Technician from each Jaguar and Land Rover brand.

Michael was one of top eight Land Rover service managers, based on overall rank at 2015-2016 year-end, to be declared, for the second consecutive year, a Guild award winner, the release said.

Michael has spent more than 15 years as a service manager at several Land Rover dealerships in North Carolina and Virginia, including Land Rover Greensboro and Land Rover Roanoke.  He joined Land Rover’s Cape Fear dealership in January 2012.

A 1995 graduate of Lexington Senior High School, Michael attended N.C. A&T University and Guilford Technical Community College. He is the son of Ralph Michael of Salisbury and Christine Michael of Lexington. Michael’s fiancé is Angela Craven, and the two are parents of daughter Taylor and son Desani Bobo.
