New Hanover Regional Medical Center has welcomed six new physicians and has appointed an interim director of its foundation, according to recent news releases.

Cardiologist Joshua A. Spencer is the newest member of the medical staff of Cape Fear Heart Associates, part of the NHRMC Physician Group. He is a general cardiologist “concentrating in coronary artery disease management, preventive cardiology, congestive heart failure, nuclear imaging, echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography in both inpatient and outpatient settings,” according to a news release.

Spencer earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Carson-Newman College and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. New Hanover Medical Group, part of the NHRMC Physician Group, announced recently that GiGi MacDonald, William McLeod, Toni M. Melville and Latessa Smith Spiers have joined the practice.

These four providers replace Charles M. Almond, J. William Eakins, Clifford T. Lewis and Neill Musselwhite, all of whom retired recently.

MacDonald (at left) has completed a residency in internal medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Health, where she was also an assistant professor of internal medicine. She earned her doctorate in medicine from the UNC School of Medicine, and her bachelor’s degree in zoology from N.C. State University, according to a news release. She is board certified in internal medicine.

Spiers earned her doctorate in medicine from East Carolina University and her bachelor’s of science degree from Davidson College.

James S. McKinney has joined the NHRMC Physician Group–Neurology, the medical center announced in a separate news release. McKinney specializes in vascular neurology and will serve as medical director of the NHRMC Stroke Program.

McKinney (at left) recently served as the medical director of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center and as an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

He earned his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. His postgraduate training includes an internship at Seton Hall University St. Michael's Medical Center, a neurology residency at Seton Hall's New Jersey Neuroscience Institute and a vascular neurology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. McKinney is board certified in vascular neurology and neurocritical care and is a fellow of the American Heart Association, according to the release.

McKinney will be providing care for inpatients at New Hanover Regional's main campus.

Schorr Davis (at right), director of business development at NHRMC, has been tapped to serve as interim head of the NHRMC Foundation, according to a news release. She began her duties Friday.

Davis steps in following the departure of Adam Cook, vice president of development and executive director of the foundation. Cook left NHRMC last week for a position in the Charlotte area, according to the release.

Davis became director of business development at NHRMC in 2010. She led the effort for the hospital to merge with SEAHEC and has served as lead analyst for expanding services in new markets.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt University, Davis enrolled in the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a master’s degree in public health, and a master’s degree in public administration.
