Wilmington-based NourishNC has hired Steve McCrossan as its new executive director, according to a recent news release from the nonprofit.

McCrossan began his duties July 27.

The organization’s new head has diverse experience in the nonprofit world as well as in the retail and hospitality industries, the release stated. His leadership positions include one as director of services at the Country Club of Landfall.

“Steve has demonstrated an enduring commitment to building strong and healthy communities via his work in the nonprofit sector,” the release stated, citing McCrossan’s service on the Paws Place board and with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps.

Since moving to Wilmington in 2004, McCrossan has earned a master's of public administration degree with a concentration in nonprofit management from University of North Carolina Wilmington. He also holds a graduate degree in liberal studies and is currently enrolled in a graduate community preparedness and disaster management certificate program through University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, according to the release.

NourishNC collects and purchases food to send home with hungry school-age children in New Hanover County, many of whom otherwise get their only real meals at school.
