New Hanover County Public Library’s local history librarian has been awarded the Jean Thomason Librarian Scholarship to attend the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), according to a recent news release.
 
Jennifer Daugherty will take the Advanced Methodology and Evidence Analysis course at IGHR and looks forward to expanding her ability to assist and train local genealogists, the release stated. The scholarship will cover the cost of her tuition.
 
Begun in 1962, IGHR draws over 200 genealogists together each year for a week of intensive study of genealogical sources and methods. The Institute will meet June 7-12 at the Samford University Library in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
The scholarship is awarded annually to one student, and anyone currently employed in a library may apply, the release stated.
 
Daugherty holds a master's degree in library science from Indiana University-Bloomington and a bachelor’s degree in English from Eastern Kentucky University. While in graduate school, she was chosen for a fellowship at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History Archives.
 
Previously a local history librarian at Cumberland County Public Library in Fayetteville, Daugherty is now New Hanover County’s special collections and local history librarian.
