Ronald McDonald House Charities Gives Grants To Two Local Organizations

By Jenny Callison, posted Jan 20, 2015
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wilmington and First Fruit Ministries of Wilmington have received grants totaling $30,000 from Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Carolina and Global Ronald McDonald House Charities, according to a news release from local McDonald’s owner-operators Denny Anderson and David Anderson.

The Boys & Girls Clubs, who together serve more than 1,100 young people each year, plan to use their $20,000 grant to support their program called Power House – Making the Minutes Count with STEM Activities, the release stated. The funds “will help purchase computers, supplies and food for their STEM after-school program” at all unit sites.

First Fruit Ministries will use its $10,000 grant to support its Food Pantry Outreach program, helping to purchase food for those in need as well as auto insurance, gas and maintenance for the ministry’s vehicles that pick up food, the release stated, adding that between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, First Fruit distributed 83,915 boxes of food totaling 548,806 pounds. According to the ministry’s database, 26 percent of the food boxes went to children.
