UNCW Hires Swinney As SWA

By Meg Garner, posted May 20, 2014
University of North Carolina Wilmington's director of athletics Jimmy Bass recently announced the hiring of Adrianne Swinney as the new senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator.

“From being a coach to working as an athletic trainer to serving as a top-level administrator, [Swinney] has experienced all facets of an athletic program,” Bass said in a press release. “She will be an excellent addition to our senior management team and be a tremendous advocate for our student-athletes and coaches.”

Swinney, a former Jackson State University (Mississippi) assistant athletic director, will be involved in the “overall planning and direction of the Seahawk program,” the press release said. She will also be responsible for compliance with all NCAA, CAA and UNCW reports and for the regulatory structure for her department.

The press release went on to say she will “manage the NCAA/UNCW Drug Testing program, serve on the CAA’s Competition Committee and ensure the department’s compliance with Title IX.”

Swinney graduated from the NCAA Leadership Institute in 2012 and the National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators Institute for Administrative Advancement in 2013.
