Lee Spooner was recently named the new athletics director of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina.

Spooner has worked for the YMCA for over 10 years as both a volunteer and an employee. He began volunteering for the organization in 2007 when he coached his son’s soccer team. 
 
Spooner was eventually hired on as the soccer director and introduced the “Itty Bitty Soccer Program,” which teaches soccer to 2 and 3-year-olds.
 
“As a volunteer coach I fell in love with the Y, its programs, families and values. We have a great set of volunteer coaches and families that have become a community where our children can come play soccer and have fun,” Spooner said in a news release.
 
In his new role, Spooner will manage all of YMCA’s sports in addition to soccer.
 
“His goal is to provide quality family sports programs in surrounding counties that do not currently have recreational sports programs,” the release stated.
 
Sarah Gibbs has also been named the new financial development and marketing director. She graduated from University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2014 with a degree in business administration and has worked for the YMCA for more than four years.
