A number of gifts and grants have been given to area nonprofit organizations in the recent past.
In November,
the Landfall Foundation presented checks to 78 local nonprofit organizations. The total distribution of $361,000 is the largest amount awarded in grants since the foundation's founding 20 years ago, according to officials. Over that 20-year period, the foundation has now given out nearly $3.4 million in grants and scholarships.

Atlantic Marine, through the She Rocks organization, donated $10,000, a portion of its sales, to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Zimmer Cancer Center.
“Cancer has touched the lives of some of my closest friends and family,” David Floyd, president of Atlantic Marine, said in a news release. “It’s my hope that this donation will touch someone in need. We love this community and look forward to being able to do more in the future.”
She Rocks Inc. is a nonprofit that raises money for ovarian cancer research and provides local support to those affected by all cancers.
Two recent initiatives netted $31,500 for the NHRMC Foundation, the foundation announced in a separate news release. This money is earmarked for pediatric and cancer patients.
Great Clips’ 12 area locations raised $20,500 for NHRMC’s Cleft Lip and Palate Team to create special care packages for patients, while the inaugural Cancer Shucks oyster roast and silent auction raised almost $11,000 for the patient resource fund at the Zimmer Cancer Center. The fund helps provide cancer patients and their families with support for their day-to-day needs, according to a news release.
The Junior League of Wilmington recently presented a check for $19,575 to Nourish NC, the organization announced in a news release. The funds will provide backpacks of food to students identified by school social workers as being at high risk of food insecurity on weekends.
Junior League volunteers are working with other nonprofits in the Youth Enrichment Zone, located in Wilmington’s inner city, to provide basic needs that will improve young people’s health and enable them to come to school ready to learn.
Wilmington Central Rotary recently presented $9,000 to 15 local nonprofit organizations – the latest distribution of more than $27,000 that the club raised in 2015 for charitable organizations.
The recipients of gifts from Wilmington Central Rotary, according to a news release, are: Bikes for the World. Nourish NC, DREAMS of Wilmington, Kids Makin’ It, She Rocks Inc., Salvation Army, WARM, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Police Pals Program, Heart Walk, Miracle Field, Good Friends, Bobby Jeans Kids, The Cape Fear Center for Inquiry and Christian Women JC.
Waste Industries presented a check for $5,000, along with two trash receptacles filled with donated clothes and shoes to Good Shepherd Center during the holiday season as part of a partnership between the company and the nonprofit to help the hungry and homeless.
The initiative was part of Waste Industries’ Full Circle Project, the company’s new approach in its charitable giving efforts, according to a news release.
