Fillion, Shores Join NHRMC Practices

New Hanover Regional Medical Center has announced two new medical professionals in its practices.

Michelle M. Fillion has joined the General Surgery Specialists practice and has her office in the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center. She is a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist who is also serving as an assistant professor of surgery in NHRMC's surgery residency program, according to a news release from the medical center.

Fillion is board certified in both complex general surgical oncology and general surgery with a specialization  “in all aspects of surgical oncology, including liver resections and microwave ablation for primary and metastatic disease, Whipple procedure, gastrectomy, colorectal surgery, mastectomy and lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, regional lymph node dissection ... thyroidectomy, and minimally invasive surgery,” the release stated.

A graduate with honors from Ohio State University, Fillion attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, according to the release. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, and received her Master of Medical Science degree from Ohio State. She also completed a fellowship in complex surgical oncology at Ohio State’s  Wexner Medical Center, the release continued. 

L. Carla Shores (at left), a certified physician assistant, has joined Hanover Gastroenterology-NHRMC Physician Group. In her 12-year career as a PA, she has had experience in providing inpatient and outpatient care, patient and family education, patient screening and examinations, and preventive care in the field of gastrointestinal medicine, the news release stated.

Shores earned her Master of Health Sciences degree with honors from George Washington University and her bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, according to the release. She comes to the practice from Gastrointestinal Medical Associates in Fairfax, Virginia.

NHRMC also announced that Hanover Gastroenterology recently expanded its services to include an office location in Leland at 1333 S. Dickinson Drive in The Villages at Brunswick Forest. The practice’s original location is at 1515 Doctors Circle, Building A, in Wilmington.

The practice specializes in diseases of the stomach, liver and digestive tract, while also providing access to the specialized services offered by New Hanover Regional, the release stated.
