NHCS Announces Appointments, Awards

The New Hanover County Board of Education recently recognized several faculty members and announced various administrative appointments.

Jenifer Leeds is the elementary school teacher of the year. Leeds is a fourth grade teacher at Ogden Elementary School.

Rebecca Clark is the middle school teacher of the year for NHCS. Clark is a physical education teacher at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy.

Meredith Kokoski is not only this year’s high school teacher of the year but also NHCS’ teacher of the year. She is an English teacher at Laney High School. Kokoski received a new Toyota Prius II to use for one year courtesy of Hendrick Toyota of Wilmington.

Robin Hamilton is the 2014-15 principal of the year for NHCS. Hamilton is the principal at Parsley Elementary School.

Burt Kilpatrick is the new principal of the College Road Early Childhood Education Center, the board of education announced in a recent press release. Kilpatrick was the assistant principal at Pine Valley Elementary School.

Shannon Smiles will serve as the district’s director of the Head Start and North Carolina Pre-K programs. She previously served as the director of Pender County Schools’ preschool program for 13 years.

Julia LaBombard will be the newest assistant director of maintenance operations, replacing the former position of administrative services supervisor. LaBombard is the former supplemental services supervisor for the maintenance operations department.

William Hatch, the current principal at Roland-Grise Middle School, has been appointed principal at Johnson Pre-K Center.

Sherry Pinto, the current principal at Holly Shelter Middle School, has been appointed principal at Roland-Grise Middle School.

Jayne Kiker is the new principal at Holly Shelter Middle. She will leave her current position as principal at Bradley Creek Elementary School.
